The entrance is dominated by the Sant'Agnese tower, named after the church with the same name, already mentioned in the year 1000 and no longer existing. The only tower that still exists in the walls built in 1154, it was rebuilt in 1324 and strengthened in 1394 by Jacopo d'Appiano. Here stood the gate of the Lecci, which no longer exists.
